An individual undertaking this course will need to demonstrate the following to be eligible for entry:

• Psychological and physical capability to be able to meet the demands of the practical demonstrations for this course, such as the requirements to work safely at heights wearing appropriate PPE and using appropriate fall protection equipment. Participants will need sufficient physical ability to lift equipment infrequently from ground to overhead and access heights above 2m.
• Protective slip resistant footwear/safety shoes and comfortable/practical clothing must be provided by the student and worn during the practical sessions and assessment.
• Basic computer skills to complete workplace forms and reports.

Course durations can vary for multiple reasons, so the durations below are the minimum possible amount.

• Refresher: Face-to-face contact time of at least 7 hours
• Face-to-face: Face-to-face contact time of at least 11 hours
• Online with face-to-face assessment: Face-to-face contact time of at least 4 hours 30 mins

Performance tasks:

• Work at height on a brittle surface
• Work at height on a flat surface
• Perform emergency rescue using industrial fall arrest systems and devices

Documentation:

• Completion of two site-based Risk Assessment (JSEA/SWMS) forms

Theory assessment:

• A written assessment consisting of short-answer and multiple-choice questions

In construction, supervisors must oversee teams working on scaffolding, rooftops, or tall structures, ensuring that all height safety protocols and fall-arrest systems are properly implemented. In the telecommunications industry, managing workers climbing communication towers or installing equipment at height requires comprehensive risk assessment and control measures to prevent accidents. Similarly, in the wind energy sector, where technicians frequently work on turbines, supervisors need to ensure the correct use of harnesses and fall-protection systems while managing potential height-related hazards.

Additionally, in emergency response, supervisors leading rescue teams in high-risk environments, such as industrial sites or outdoor rescues, rely on this training to implement proper safety procedures and respond effectively to incidents. The course provides the practical knowledge and tools required to ensure safety, compliance with regulations, and preparedness for emergencies across these industries.
